UPDATE on car start problems 1986 740t 700 1986

This AM, ready to get down and dirty. Thought I would try to start car for the "hey" of it. Well he started all right! Right up! Volt gauge reading fine, no acceleration loss going up hills!! What in the world?

Granted the key does not return to the #2 position w/ accesories working. I have to nudge it a little farther, almost to #1 and then everything is Ok. Stepping on breaks doesn't cut the radio out, volt gauge still reads high... I know I have a false happiness right now but it still feels good!

Now what? Should I go ahead and replace ignition switch? was it the problem all along? I can not afford a new one so I would have to grab one from a junk yard... i know... Times are very tight, lost my job, dog fell ill, then I had to put him to sleep, etc. these last few weeks haven't been easy!!!

I still need to get back to NH so I can work and get cash. I don't dare just take off without doing anything. I don't know anyone in PA that I can trust to help me with my volvo. Anyone?
