I can't find any marking indicating which steering rack I have. 200 1990

None of the pillar stickers say which rack I have. It's a 1990 240DL - The mechanic said it won't pass inspection because the right inner tie rod is worn. How difficult is it to change or replace this? Why are there no instructions for this job in the Bently's or Chilton's?
