My problem has 2 parts.
part 1...
I really just noticed this a few days ago.
The light comes on when i start the car and then goes off like normal, but i have had instances where the alternator has stopped charging the battery (broken ground wire) and the light has not lit up in my dash.
If it wasn't for my voltmeter I would have kept on driving without ever knowing.
What does the light not light up when the alternator fails to charge?
Part 2...
Again this happened a few days ago and still persists.
On cold starts my charging system does not start to charge up immediately.
There is up to a 4 minute lag before it will start charging. Between that time i am running completly off the battery at around 11volts.
I have tested my alternator when it charges and it puts out around 14-14.2V during a full load (fan, wipers, headlights). Revving the car does not raise the voltage, nor does subsequent restarts.
HOWEVER, once the alternator decided to start charging, subsequent warm / hot starts will result in a full 14volts after start up.
What is up with this?
I thought it was my wiring harness's alternator lead so i ran a new one and I KNOW it works.
Any ideas?
TIA
