What year did daytime running lights become available? 700 1986

I thought I had daytime running lights on my 1986 740 and my 1994 940, maybe I am confused. I leave headlight switch on all the time, the lights go out when I turn off the ignition. But my insurance company said that the 1986 did not come with them, and an IPD ad for a kit says they were not available until 1995.
