Hi Badge:
I got the car home. It took the 250 mile trip perfectly a 70 mph. I'm stsrting to do some close inspection to see what I actually have here. I've noticed a few things of concern.
(1)- The Front Timing Belt looks like it's had it. The top of the belt is developing small surface cracks. How much time do I have here? I stopped using the car until I can replace it.
(2)- It starts on one compression stroke, when cold, and runs smoothly at 40 degree weather. So I assume my compression and glow plugs are ok. I've noticed a little blowby in the filler opening when warmed up. How much is acceptable?
(3)- I'm starting to accumulate some tools. Bought the Locking Plate, locking pin and dial indicator extention from Ebay. Have the Dial Indicator already. Ordered the Vibration Damper wrench from Volvo. I tryed to get the vibration damper locking tool from Volvo but they can't get it anymore. Can I make something here? What other tools should I get to do the Timing Belt and valves?
(4)- I checked underneath and all is clean and dry. The privious owner was using Shell Rotella (Dino) at 3000 mile intervals religously. I'd like to switch to a Synthetic like Mobil 1. What do you think or recommend? Is it OK to switch to a Synthetic at 186,000 miles or should I continue on with Rotella?
(5)- The Chiltons Manual say 25 PSI. Oil Pressure at 2000 RPM is normal Oil Pressure. Is that correct? Seems kind of low. Where are pressure taps to check this?
I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes on and I become more familiar with this great running beast. Be as long winded as you want, I love it!!!
Incidentally, I love your stories. What ever happened to that stupid Court Clerk? I know they are true because my son tells me similar tales. He's a NYC Police Officer (Badge 2444).
I hope this post helps other D24 Owners.
Thanks
Warren
