Everyone,
Me again. '82 with CIS that doesn't want to idle at 750 like it should. After the last round of repairs and general cleaning (throttle body, injectors and injector seals, flame trap) I am still having trouble maintaining good idle when the engine is warm. Tonight I took out my IAC or IAV, whatever you call it, and sprayed it good with cleaner as per instructions posted somewhere on Brickboard. Maybe it was me, but it didn't seem too gunked up with grease, carbon or otherwise. Anyway, I doused it three or four times, shook it around to get the spray all over, slapped it back in and she started right up. I haven't driven any distance yet, will do so tomorrow, so soon I will be able to post and say if my problems are TRULY solved (for now). But, in the event that this does not do the trick, I have a few questions:
People have mentioned that one must replace the IAC after a while; one can't just clean it indefinitely because it just wears out. If it turns out I need to replace it, where's the best place to order a new one?
If it doesn't fix the problem, should I look elsewhere for the culprit before buying a new IAC? I've been looking over the vacuum hoses and besides the one hose I replaced a week ago, everything feels and looks OK.
Thanks y'all.
Matt
