CR-718 installation in a '90 240GL

Our '90 240GL has a malfunctioning CR-712 radio in it, and my wife DEMANDS that I fix or replace it (the two year old makes her sing in lieu of the radio, and she is tiring of the ABC song!). I believe the volume potentiometer is the problem. Contact cleaner failed to solve the problem; it just seems worn out. I have a "new" Volvo reconditioned C-718 that fits the faceplate quite nicely, but it came with no documentation. As I contemplate the job before me, I have a few questions.

1. The CR-712 has separate 9-pin and 2-pin connectors. The CR-718 has a single socket for a 14-pin connector. Both radios have a socket for an "AMP" connector. Can I purchase a new 14-pin connector and splice it into the car wiring? Otherwise, I suppose I'll make a trip to the local P&P to find the part I need.

2. From the presence of the "AMP" socket, I assume that the CR-718 requires an external amp to power the rear speakers. Is this true?

3. The CR-718 also has a round 13-pin circular socket labeled "CD." Will this unit control an external CD player? I see no controls on the faceplate to indicate CD-related functions.

If anybody happens to have a copy of CR-718 documentation they could share, I would be truly grateful. Thanks to all of you, my fellow bricksters, especially the gurus amongst us!
