towing with 960 wagon 900 1996

i bought a new tent trailer, it weighs 2400 lbs witha 248 lb. tongue weight,my 850 is not strong enough to pull it up hills, i am considering a 960 wagon for the increased torque and stronger trans. or maybe i need a cross country.
has anyone here towed with a 960?
