How compatible are the interiors between a 740 and a 760? (Dash, headliner, etc.)
I have just purchased an '89 740 Turbo for a friend who will be picking the car up in a few days (he lives several states away). In the meantime, there is a nice '89 760 Turbo in the local parts yard that is about a week away from being crushed. I'm curious about how much time and effort would be required to move some of the nicer luxuaries from the 760 to the 740. Here are the items of consideration:
740 Equipment I would like to swap:
Manual climate control system.
No grab handles.
Hard plastic A-post covers.
Short hood and exposed windshield wipers.
760 Desired equipment:
Automatic climate control system.
Overhead grab handles.
Soft fabric A-post covers.
Sleek long hood that goes up to windshield and covers the wipers.
Since both cars are of the 1989 vintage, I'm assuming that many options will swtich over. But, I'm also assuming that the Climate Control system will require a lot of work. Is this a bigger project than I want to tackle? Do I need to replace all the ductwork servos? I've got a few days, but not all the time in the world.
Also, can the hood assemblies be switched over, or is this a permenant feature of the respective bodies. Ideally, I'd like to see the 740 with the long hood and windshield wipers that tuck in behind it, but I understand if this is not possible. If all the parts and sheet metal can be swapped without cutting welds, I'm interested...
Is the dash a direct swap? Do I need to pull the entire center console too? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'm assuming that the fabric covers on the A-posts can be pulled and swapped into the 740 unless somebody tells me otherwise.
I'd like to change the headlights too, but somebody already got them, along with the power seats.
Thanks for any information you can offer. God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.
