How one thing leads to another 200

I just installed new engine and tranny mounts. The challenge was more

logistical than technical, no breaking news there. I would suggest

having a set of those ratcheting wrenches (Is their proper name "gear

wrench"?) for the tight spaces. They worked well for me.

My question:

I found that one of the four bolts holding the transmission

cross-member was stripped, cross threaded, and doing nothing to

actually hold the cross-member to the frame. I tried to replace it with

a fresh bolt of identical length, diameter, and thread pitch but could

not get a bite. I already have the drill bit and tap to change the 10mm

hole to a 1/2in hole. Is this OK to do on a frame rail?

Thanks as always.

Jim
