My 1990 740GL (330,000 miles) with B230F engine is hard to start. By that I mean that the engine cranks for 4-5 seconds before it starts. In contrast my 2003 S60 fires in an instant. I put a fuel pressure guage on the injector rail and it hangs in at a steady 40 PSI at idle. When the engine is turned off the 40 PSI bleeds down to nothing in less than one minute. When I go to re-start, the engine doesn't start until the fuel pressure builds back up to 40 PSI. By pinching various fuel hoses I have determined that the pressure is bleeding off through the in tank pump. My understanding is that the pump in the tank has a "check valve" that is supposed to prevent this from happening. Is this true or is there a check valve somewhere else in the system that I don't know about that has failed.
Thanks for the help.
