I have a 1992 940 which the steering binds when the wheel is turned left or right. When you attempt to turn the wheel you can feel resistance and then the wheel just breaks free. After it breaks free and if you continue to turn it again it will break away again, it doesn't matter what position the steering wheel is in. I jacked the front end and removed the wheels and inspected all components and couldn't find anything noticeably wrong. It does not bind when the front wheels are off the ground and the steering is moved. However, put one wheel on the ground and it starts binding again. It is hard to tell where the binding is coming from, but it seems to be coming from the rack. Therefore, I bleed the rack to see if that would help, which it didn't. Additionaly, about three months ago I replaced the rack because it was leaking very bad, I also changed out the balljoints and various other components. I haven't had a problem until recently. Any ideas?
