There seems to be a lot more postings about poor running engines lately, and it's been making me think about this, as the engines in my own cars haven't been doing well also (a little rougher idle, a little less pep, a little more hesitation starting cold, and about 10-15% poorer gas mileage). Actually, with the colder (denser) air this season, the cars should be running better.
And then I remembered -- a few weeks ago (when these symptoms started), my local gas station started selling the 'oxygenated' winter blend mandated by the EPA.
So I'm wondering, how many of you have lately noticed some decline in the way your engines are running (especially older, pre-'86 cars), and how many of you live where they have started selling the MBTE-laced fuels?
I'm wondering if there's a connection.
Thanks.
