Fuel pump relay buzzes, car won't start - where does the relay ground? 200 1987

The main/fuel pump relay on my '87 240 "buzzes" when the key is turned to the on (II) position. It's been doing this off and on for a while, now it buzzes a lot and the car won't start. I resoldered, then replaced, the relay - no change.

Someone suggested a buzzing relay indicates a bad ground. Studying the wiring diagram I can't figure out where the relay grounds. There are 2 relays inside the box. I think the buzzing one powers the ECU as soon as the key is on, while the other one turns on the fuel pump when the ECU tells it to. It looks like the bad relay grounds through the ECU but I can't follow the chart.

Anybody know where the relay is grounded? Suggestions for fixing/diagnosing?

This car has the original biodegradable wiring harness. FWIW I split open the covering in a few places and do not see any problems. If I could figure out which wires are involved I could bypass just the ones that power/ground the relay and see what that does for me.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Terry
