I know, I know, it sounds crazy. But I was thinking about how my speedometer cable keeps bouncing around, and how it's a pain to lube it every 3 months. Wait, isn't there a company that makes a zerk kit for clutch cables so they are easy to lube? And zerks are easily had at Kragen for almost nothing... hmmmmm. How hard could it be?
Enough of my internal monologue. Has anybody tried this, or am I going to have to be a guinea pig for my own hair-brained plan for once. I'm thinking the small 1/4 x 28 thread ones might be small enough, or perhaps a push in, providing that the hard rubber material extends to the cable (quite likely, I think). All I think is required is to drill a hole in the cable, make sure the zerk doesn't contact the cable once inserted, and secure it with a hose clamp or tape. Ok, so it's not that nuts, but if anyone has tried it and knows it doesn't work, or has some ideas as to a decent setup, please feel free to spew any thoughts all over this thread. Thanks.
