hey everyone...i got this offer at my feet for an '85 764ti with 190K for $300...it was rear-ended in the middle of october and it has sat where it is since then, till today. it is still very drivable...just that its not quite legal anymore since the tail light area is really messes up! but anyway...i took a look at it today, tha car itself is pretty nasty...so i'de only use it for parts, but the engine and everything else looks fairly clean...and when i started it...it idled pretty rough..but still stayed running...and on top of that, it looked as if it was burning oil real bad!...i was just about to leave it for good, when it occured to me its probably just the stupid stock exhaust!!...my car isnt stock anymore, so i forgot, and sure enough, the mufflers where barely even warm, so most likely it was just condensation (wisconsin cold nasty weather!, so i drove it around, it was NICE, quick just like it should be...everything sounded like it ran pretty smooth at this point...it even revved pretty high with no problems...and it idled normally now...so i checked out the 'smoke' and it was gone!...so im pretty sure it was just condensation. now...i know this wasnt a great year for this engine and stuff, but do you think i should do an engine swap with it into my '87 744gle, or just say forget about it?? either way, i want turbo, i was originally just gonna slap on a turbo to my current engine and just run alittle boost to keep it safe, yet quick...and $300 is pretty steep for the shape its in, but the lady wont go down for certain reasons and i respect that, so should i swap this engine, watercooled turbo, trans, and wiring harnesses...or just throw on the spare turbo i got already for only about $100, even though the engine wasnt made for it....??? thank you for your time everyone -steve.
