turbo-n/a ECU compatibility 700 1989

I have been told by a mechanic with quite a few years experience working with older volvos that the ECU's for the turbo and n/a B230 engines are the same (from 1989 740s). This statement strikes me as being kind of odd, but not impossible. Can anyone confirm or deny this conclusively?

I know they have different part numbers, but that doesn't always mean they are different parts.
