I have a 1992 965 which has done about 265.000 kilometres. This weekend, I took a drive to London and the car was heavily loaded (dj-equipment). In London, I had to drive from one traffic jam to another, and slowly I got aware of some shudder in the rear when taking off. When getting to about 20km/h, the shudder went away. This shudder gradually got worse, and I began to hear the exhaust vibrate. When I arrived, I got everything out of the car, I drove it around the block and I couldn't feel anything. Except when I drove it backwards really hard in the rain (that I noticed before, but I think it might be the same as taking off quickly with a front-wheel-drive to the point that the wheels start to spin).
Yesterday and today, I'm not carrying anything in the car and no shudder is noticeable.
What could it be? Is it something to worry about? Is it the differential, the drive-train? I don't have an oil-cooler for the transmission. Thanks for your help.
