I'm attempting an OD rebuild due to what I believe are bad piston seals in the OD unit. The job is going pretty well up until this point, I'm having trouble getting the OD unit separated from the tranny though. I thought that I had prepared well ahead of time by dumping the clutch to kill the car in reverse since shutting off the car in overdrive was not an option. I have also relieved the fluid pressure by removing the speedometer gear and the bottom cover of the OD. I have not yet removed the solenoid since it was recently replaced and I do not have a wrench thin enough to turn it anyway, is this important?

I can get the OD unit to budge just the slightest bit by pushing up against the tailshaft, just enough to get a little fluid to seep out, but not enough to insert a pry bar or a screwdriver. I have tried tapping around the outer circumference of the unit with a hammer and a block of wood, but to no avail.

Is there anything else that I can try? Maybe a come-along attached to the rear of the unit and the real axle? Is this too extreme a measure to take yet?
