Crank Position or RPM Sensor 200 1992

My wifes 92 245 automatic stalled several times today and was difficult to restart. Eventually it did start and she got home but this happened several time in less than 5 miles. Of course when she gets it home all appears fine and runs great. I have a 214 code on the OBD display which indicates the problem is the Crank Position or RPM Sensor and have read the FAQ on the subject.
I am looking for advice on replacing this sensor without breaking the sensor mount. What is the best way to do the job. Thanks Dan
