Where to buy 12-14 gauge test lead wire for tailgate ground strap repair ... 200 1989

I just replaced both wiring harnesses in the roof-tailgate area. I discovered the ground straps were totally shot. I was told that Volvo does not sell the separate ground straps with connectors on them. They might have the squarish shaped connectors, but the problem is that those connectors must have been pressed on at the factory with a special tool. So, I decided to run test lead wire with two eye connectors, one from the roof-hinge-bolt, and the other to the tailgate bolt. I have been having a hard time locating the heavier gauge test lead wire. Aren't the hinge grounds about a 12 to 14 gauge? Where can I purchase it?

Parenthetically, it was suggested that I drill a small hole in the two [squarish shaped] posts in the hinges and install the ground strap wire with two eyebolts, secured by two [small] screws: However, those posts are a small diameter to begin with and the drill hole would have to be ... what, 1/3 of the diameter at most? ... and wouldn't I then have to tap that hole to make threads, unless I used small sheet metal screws (doesn't seem like a strong enough connection, does it?).

But, I think the first idea seems easier and more secure, as well as, a better ground. Opinions?

thanks,
diyer
