On my Volvo are 2 different sets of tires. Front ones are a pair of Goodyear Eagles, and the rears are a pair of Firestone F70Cs.
A few years back, both tires on the left side had to replaced (a few months apart) because they popped... stupid nails lying around in the road. This means that now, the right side's tires have worn a lot more than the left. It's actually almost time to replace the right side (both tires).
I am now faced with a dilemma. The ideal situation would be to replace ALL 4 tires at the same time, but that seems like a waste of money since the left side tires are still pretty meaty.
So my choices are as follows:
1) Replace all 4 tires. Pros: better that way, even tread all around. Cons: costs more $$
2) Replace only the right side. Pros: cheaper. Cons: right side is now meatier than the left, so I'll run into this dilemma again.
3) Replace only the right side, but move the tires around so that the existing Firestone and Goodyear tires are on the same axle. Pros: even tread on each axle. Cons: aren't you not supposed to switch a tire from 1 side to another due to the steel belts or something? I seem to recall hearing this.
So any advice? As usual, any and all advice is greatly appreciated.
P.S. Tire recommendations would be great also. I need all season tires because I live in NYC. I'm willing to trade off tire life for some added snow and/or rain traction.
Thanks!
