87 240 Funky Fuel Relay Problems..... 200 1987

Hmmm.... So the car wouldn't start, would start, wouldn't start. Fuel pump ran when relay jumped, sometimes started with old relay jiggled back into place.
So I put the new relay in today, car started, car didn't start. New relay made funky buzzing noise. Jumped relay made sure fuel pump still worked. Used some starter fluid to make sure nothing else went wrong. Put relay back in.
Now I'm totaly lost....
First the relay didn't do anything, then it buzzed a little, then didn't do anything. Then I held the fuel pump side closed (the one that clicks first) and the car didn't start. Pulled it jumped it again listened for fuel pump, plugged relay back in. Car started, relay worked fine. Car started next 5 times.
The old relay is 1 year old, OEM part from dealer and the fuel pump side(the one that clicks first) was completely corroded and looked kinda burnt.
The buzzing leads me to beleive (from this wonderful site) that there's a loose ground connection?
Maybe the wire terminal for the relay is corroded?
I don't have a lot of tools so any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Wayne
