Front wheel bearing replacement 140-160 1974

Has anyone replaced the bearings on their front wheels? In the bearing kit, I also got two metal seal rings and a rubber seal ring. One of the metal seals has a smaller inner diameter than the other and is too small to slide over the innermost section of the axle.
When I removed the wheel the existing parts were in pieces, so I couldn't use them to figure out the assembly procedure, except to notice there was only one metal seal ring. The assembly procedure (I'm guessing) is to install the rubber seal on the inside of the inner bearing and then the metal seal ring as the innermost part, before sliding the hub assy onto the axle. Alternatively, the rubber seal has a V-groove at its waist and the ID of one of the metal seal rings will fit into this groove. A third option, *could* be to put the metal seal with the smallest ID inside the inner bearing, then the metal seal with the larger ID and lastly the rubber seal. I'm not sure if there is room for both seal rings, though.
I know this wasn't perfectly clear, but it's the best I can explain it. If you've done it, hopefully you'll understand.
I'd appreciate any help here, don't want to scr*w up and repeat this again later.

P.S. Should add that I checked the Volvo green book, Clymer and Haynes, and they're all very vague about the inner seal.
