How to tell what year B230F engine is? 200

How can you tell what year a B230F engine is - it is a replacement engine, red, and the tag on the timing belt cover is: 1289092. I am told that 83-87 engines have the flame trap below the intake manifold on top of the oil separator while 89-on have the flame trap on top of the intake manifold, is this true? I am told that the engine is from a '92 but would like to know for sure.
