240 Wagon shake 200

I have an '86 240 wagon w/220K miles. Ever since I've had it (1 1/2 years of light use), I've noticed a pronounced, rhythmic shake when cruising at steady speeds around 40 mph. It's not so noticeable when accelerating through to higher speeds. A friend suggested it might be driveshaft related, but the U-joints seem tight, and I don't know what else to check. Any thoughts?
