Replacing odometer gear, Need Help to open unit 700 1992

I have the speedometer/odometer unit out of the cluster, but I can't open the two pieces apart.

I removed the 4 screws from the back and the two pieces loosen up but I can not separate them to get to the odometer, it's like there still something holding them together. Am I missing something? Does the needle pull out, if so what's the best way to open the 2 pieces apart?

Any hints are greatly appreciated.
