Wet carpet driver's side, removal of door sill trim - 1992 240 wagon

Had some heavy rain recently and as I was replacing a fuse a couple of days ago discovered that the carpet under the floor mat trays was very wet. I think that the leak may be originating from high up in the front between the brake pedal and the fuse box area. (The center of the floor well area is the wettest, but that is probably due to the water pooling there?) Read the archives on previous posts about pulling back the carpet, and removing the sill trim to get at the drain holes. I can put my fingers under the trim, but am nervous about just pulling out and up, do not want to break the clips, or what is holding it in place. What should I be feeling for, and where? Also, any thoughts on where the water is likely originating from? I am hoping for some dry weather tomorrow so I can tackle this job out in the driveway. I will be most grateful for any input on getting my car into an condition state again!
