Alrighty, I have a 1983 240DL that is having a couple problems. The car has a slight lope in the idle and I can't figure out why. If I hook it up to a vacuum guage, it get a reading that fluctualte very quickly right around 15 inches of vacuum, but once in a while it'll fluctuate down to about 13 and then back up. what would cause this?
Also, it has some spark scatter. it's not too bad, only about 2-3 degrees +/- from the base 12 degree setting. What would cause this? I was thinking that with a 20 year old distributor, it probably needs a new one. It's got the Chrysler peice of crap ignition on it.
One last thing. I did a compression test this afternoon on it and came up with 210 psi on EVERY cylinder. Now, this seems WAY too high to be normal. Sounds like it could have some carbon build up in the cylinder. What kinds of things can be done to solve this. I think that this could be the cause for the almost constant knocking that it has.
Any ideas or explinations on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.
