driveshaft length- auto vs. auto w/ OD 200

Hello all,

My dad has a 1980 wagon with the 3-speed automatic transmission. It is acting up and my need to be rebuilt / replaced. He has an '83 sedan as a parts car. The sedan has the 3-speed w/ overdrive. Is there a driveshaft length difference between a car with the non-OD transmission and a car with the OD tranny?

If so...
I know that the OD is an external unit on the manual (M-46). It may be a ridiculous question (I have no experience with automatic transmissions), but if the OD is external on the auto, can the tranny be used without the OD?

Thanks,
Keith
