have been working to fix situation. New antenna. Insatalled in trunk CD, radio's coax antenna cable goes into the CD's control unit then on to plug in rear of radio. Works fine as does the radio...Monitoring the CD is done by tuning the radio to a specified frequency which I've assigned to preset 1.

So yesterday going on what I'd gleaned from a previous post about thesubject I removed the radio and took the top and bottom covers off so that aI could get a look at the antenna socket to inspect it for any loose wires. I didn't see any but I did resolder all the assoicated joints that are held in the circuit board. Not a big deal.

The CD and radio were doing fine at this point no disturbances of the signal (choppy cutting in of distortion) unconnected with running engine or any other things like that.
I also took a plastic pen and tapped here and there on the circuit board in order to disrupt the signal. I also tapped the CD's control box but I couldn't get it to replicate the disturbance.

The sound that it does make is a sharp howl at a volume level higher than what the radio is set at.

Just got off the phone with my father in law who repairs TV's and he seems to think that it is less a matter of the signal being disturbed and more of something to do with the amplification stage. His advice is to let the thing run for a while until it starts screwing up and then tap on the circuit board with a non metallic item like a toothbrush or a wooden chop stick, this will locate the general area of the problem and then I can work there. He cautioned against just heating up every joint that I see as it could create problems that I didn't have in the first place.

Can anyone tell me where the amplification stage is on the factory radio? Looking down from the top.
