After several months of completely random stalls, a replacement fuel pump relay and a couple of heavy-traffic-failures I was finally able to get the car to my mechanic while the problem was ocurring. After several days of diagnosis, the mechanic traced my stalling/no-restart problem to the ground side of the fuel injection system. Namely the ECU injection computer. (He also tested the radio suppression relay and it's fine)
The ECU is a Regina/Bendix type, Bendix Part No. S101560101E, Volvo Part No. 1389553. No EGR (checked physically).
The best price I've been able to find is $350.00 used. Volvo quoted me $676.00 for a re-manufactured one (after a 20% discount). Still, both of these prices are rather high considering that I can get one from an earlier year for undeer 100.00 and one from a later year for arounf $150.00. What's so special about the 1990?
The last reseller I dealt with specifically stated that the 1992 version was not compatable - althouth the FAQs on this site state that the regina system was used on all 1990-1992 non-california, non-turbo 740s.
So far I have been unable to find out much at all about this ecu. Even the local volvo dealer hasn't been able to track down the current part number - although it's been superceeded twice (53860 and possibly 811035. Despite my combing of various information sources, I've been unable to learn much. What I need is a list of compatable years/models. And possibly a couple of cheap sources.
Anyone know anything about this troublesome ECU?
