Help me decide: a 140 or a 240. 200

I'm planning to purchase a Volvo - either a 140 or a 240 series. Need your opinion on which is better from safety/durability perspective. Or is there really a difference? Having owned both types in the distant past, I'm considering one or the other for a second car replactment but haven't decided which one, since each has its advantages & disadvantages over the other. A few thing come to mind:
- 140s have pushrod engines, 240s OHC - which is beter?
- 140s have recirculating ball steering, 240s rack & pinion.
- 140s have separate front springs & shocks w/supporting lateral beam, 240s have MacPherson struts.
- not so many 140s around, many more 240s, easier to find a 240 (do know there's a '74 140, no rust/damage per owner, for sale).

Any opinions on which I should buy? I like both, probably the 140s more but I'm realistic. As a DIYer are the 140s simpler to work on? Is one more safe or durable than the other? All comments are appreciated. Happy Holidays.

Cal
