stalling '86 240 when warm - 200 1986

my '86 240 sedan stalls when warm. I live in arizona and you can imagine this a great problem in the summer. I've got 200K miles on it and the engine seems stronger than ever.It starts great, idles a little rough, when it warms a little the engine calms to a purr. after driving 6+ miles it will stall. All sensor lights on the panel will be lit and it will take a minute or two of cranking to start again. I can "two foot" drive it after this, breaking with one and reving with the other to keep it going when at a stop. I thought it may be an air intake sensor but had that replaced about a year ago. I've checked the dist. cap and there is a lot of carbon build up with chipping in the top (this was replaced a year ago also. I'm replacing this in two days. I'v been told it might be the rpm sensor but can not find this in my chiltons manual. I'd like to trouble shoot before I taking it in and fork over $$$$$ for a problem I shuld be able to fix.
