Run both pumps with jumper from fuses 1 -> 11 ?? 700 1988

My next project car was rolled into the workspace yesterday. 1988 744Ti with M46OD- clock indicating 160K. Car was purchased at a local charity auction. No history but it would appear (from paperwork under the seat) that it has been sitting in a garage for the last 6 or 7 years. The head and turbo were in the trunk. The head had been milled and I could find no faults while installing new exhaust manifold studs, seals, dampners, and lapping the valves. The turbo seems good. I hate putting cars together that I didn't take apart myself but it was too good to pass up.

I need to pump the gas out of the tank before replacing the filter. I was hoping that running the pumps on this car is as easy as on the 240's. The mainpump is fuse 1 and the intank pump is fuse 11. Can I just connect a jumper from 1 to 11 and have the pumps run? Since the fuel rail is off I plan to pump the gasoline into a container from the fuel line in the engine compartment. As long as I handle the discharge carefully and not run the pumps totally dry does that seem like a decent plan? Thank you.

Randy
