Bought a 1991 240 wagon for my daughter. 2.3 L engine, FI (not sure which type), automatic. In the last three weeks it has failed to start, on the first occasion, the shop found that the fuel pump fuse had blown and blew for them once replaced. They had done a tune-up a few weeks prior, and found that the plugs were fouled. They traced the fuse problem to the wire from the fuel pump relay to the pump; which they replaced, new plugs as well (free). About ten days later, no start again. I did some of the basics (jumped fuses 4 and 6, heard the pumps running, pulled a plug to confirm strong spark) but still no joy. Back to shop, they diagnosed flooding; with gas in oil and plugs wet with gas. Changed oil (needed it anyway), new plugs again (different type) and seems to be running well. What are some of the likely causes of the flooding? What can I test/replace on my own to prevent future occurances. I want the car to be reliable for my daughter, while hoping to avoid $$$ tows and troubleshooting.
