Purchasing a turbo? Please advise 200

I have a fairly reliable 85 240 DL now, with relatively low miles. However, I am moving back to houston, and would like something faster with better AC. So i am considering getting a newer model turbo. My questions are how much faster are they, are they a big maintenance headache, gas milage? Am i making a mistake trading a non turbo for a turbo model? Any other suggestions/advice in looking to purchase a turbo? Thanks.
