intermittent acceleration problem 200 1987

Hi I just discovered this site- I need help with the 240 DL sedan I just purchased, my first volvo.

Occasionally it will not accelerate beyond 10mph but most of the time it runs fine.

It starts fine, and usually will run OK for about 2 minutes before it looses all its power.

Then it will run at 10mph no matter how far I push down the accelerator for about 5 minutes. Then suddenly, it takes off and runs perfectly.

Often it will run perfectly for a whole day. It is possible that moisture adversely affects it, but I'm not sure yet.

I read one comment on a different Volvo site which suggested that the problem could be the intake manifold gasket- it expands when warm and seals the intake manifold. When there is no power, the gasket is leaking and the engine is pulling alot of air.

Another comment suggested that the throttle might be involved.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Anyone have suggestions?
