1986 240GL 200K
Up until I was cleaning up the fuse block and installing new glass fuses in this car the headlights worked like all my other 86+ 240's. That being with the headlight switch in the "on" position the headlights would be on when ever the ignition switch was in the "on" position. Now the headlights work independent of the ignition switch. If you have the headlights on and turn off the car the headlights remain on and must be turned off with the headlight switch. I want them to operate as designed as we always drive with them on. I see dead batteries and driving at dusk with no lights in my future.
I made the mistake of not disconnecting the battery when I first started cleaning the block with a brass brush- in fact the reminder to do that was the electrical sparking as I brushed the contacts with the brass brush. It was as I was installing the new fuses that I heard the relay clicking and realized the lights were on with the ignition off. I swapped out the relay thinking perhaps there was a chance for a return to what used to be but no luck. What suggestions do you have?? Thanks.
