what to buy? 700/900 vs 800 700 1990

I have 1990 740 wagon with 170K that I love so much I have shipped it with me from New York to Latvia to Belgium. The problem is that I have to register it again and am getting tired of the customs procedures, also, the gas is crazy priced in Europe and I am thinking about a diesel. But I cannot decide what to buy- a 740, 940 or 850. What do you think?
