Camshaft Bearings 140-160

On taking my engine apart I found one of the camshaft bearings badly galled, so I'll be replacing the three of them, as well as the cam. Does anyone have any advice on how to remove the old bearings and put in the new ones? My various manuals have nothing to say on the subject. Is this a DIY job or would it be wiser to take the block to a machine shop? I've tried to knock them out with large wrench sockets, but can't get them to budge.
