Erroneous 'Bulb Burned Out' Indication 200 1984

Many complaints regarding erroneous "bulb burned out" indications are in the archives, with just as many "fixes" suggested. I've read and tried them all to no avail on my '84 244 DL. The indicator still illuminates brightly every bloody time the lights are turned on. While Volvo no doubt intended this indicator to be useful to the driver, its proneness to false indication makes it only a distressing and distracting annoyance.

Is there any relatively easy way to simply remove the indicator bulb?
