serpentine belt tensioner 900 1993

The serpentine belt tensioner seems to have begun "chuck-a-lucking". The noice does not bother me from inside the car - but will the tensioner self destruct and leave me stranded?

Other questions - how big a job is it to replace? and can a used one be used?
