145 trailer hitch 140-160 1973

Hello All!

Some of you might know me from the "opinions" side of things. It is rare to venture over here, as I have the best Volvo Mechanic in the world, and so I usually never have to ask any Volvo questions; at least in the mechanical realm.

Now that I have acquired a 1972 145 wagon I plan on using it as the primary tow vehicle for my 1200# 1966 La Tortue (Belgian) travel trailer. I had been using my lovely 1967 122 wagon for the job, and it did the chore admirably; but the 145 is better suited as a tow car. It has the nice, lovely red B-20 engine, and four wheel disc brakes, which will be an imporvement. Also, the 122's tail sits really close to the ground, and I was always bottoming out while towing the trailer. I ruined the worm gear on the the jockey wheel of the trailer, and once I get that fixed, I don't want that to happen again.

Which brings me to the question...... What type of hitch does a 145 use, and where would I find one? Does IPD carry such an animal? Anyone done any towing with a 145? I would appreciate any insights on this.

Rob the Mechanic had to build a big support system for the hitch in the 122, as there is no frame on the car and no good safe way to hitch a triler without welding stuff in underneath. Is it the same with the 145?
