Update alternator problems seem to be fixed new problems showing up on recently acquired 245 1990 200 1990

The graft of an alternator from my wrecked 1986 sems to have been succesfully done even if the alternator has 12.5 % less amps than the original alternator for the 1990 model.I did not modify the wiring to the alternator or the battery ,I think that the corrosion on the brush and slipring wore of after awhile.

I just came back from a 350 mile trip in cold, snow and sleet . However the waterpump seems to leak at the top at approximately the rate of one drop per ten second when the engine is started and warming up. Once the engine warms up the dripping stops probably because the metal expands . I think that the dripping is due to me using the pump as a fulcrum for a wooden stick I used as a lever to adjust the tension on the fan belt after I had found out that the tension adjusting mechanism had been lost or removed by one of the previous owner.

The pump might have been pushed sideways sufficienly to weaken the seal at the gasket. It might also have been leaking before all this and I had not noticed at the time of purchasing the car because there was also some oil wetness from the valve cover gasket. Is there some type of product that I could put in the cooling system which cause a swelling of the gasket? Should I try to apply same kind of force to the pump in the opposite direction of the one I think cause the leak and then tighten the nuts a little to improve the seal? I dont feel like taking out the pump to replace the gasket . I did a pump replacement ten years ago on my first 240 and wisdom tells me that it is easier to do outdoors in the spring or summer than in the snowy winter. I am quite willing to top up the expansion tank as need be and postpone a radical surgery until early March. I think I am loosing less than a spoonful at each start-up. What do you Volvoists think I should do.

I also would like to know if there is a relay which commands the squirting of liquid on the windshield simultaneously with the three or four strokes of the wipers on the windshield. This function stopped and if it depends on a relay, I would like to know where it is what it looks like and if it responds well to fosterisation.

Thanks in advance.
