I recently installed the Gabriel VST Gas struts and shocks in my car, all went reasonably well considering it was my first strut installation. After the job was done I had a clunking noise in both front inserts, I checked the board only to find others have had similar problems with Gabriel struts. I retightened the gland nuts but the clunk didn't go away. I was ready to replace them with another brand.

As a last resort I placed some large flat washers under the top nut which has helped some others with a similar problem but with other brand inserts. The shoulder of the strut shaft was not threaded far enough down to allow a good tight fit on the bearing in the strut mount. The flat washer worked fine and now there is no more clunking
