Suggestions sought from water-pump veterans.......
I admit I did not know about "levering the water pump" upward during installation the first time. It leaked, and so I installed a new set of water pump gaskets/seals while "levering the pump" upwards during bolt tightening. Both times the surfaces were scraped squeaky clean. I lightly sanded the heater tube to make a good seal. That improved things a lot, but the thing still has a slow leak. Drip drip right down onto the power steering pump. It seems to be coming from the upper port area. That's the one people seem to have most trouble with. The leak is slow, so I have to add coolant once every 4-8 weeks. This spring I'll install yet another water pump and new gaskets again. What kind of sealant would work to eliminate the leaking? I coated the paper gasket with gaska-cinch and that part seems fine. Its the 2 rubber seals that are the problem. Some type of high temp silicone, perhaps? Thanks for your suggestions!
