Hello Again!!
I own a 89-740 w/ a 100A alternator installed and just cleaned all the grounds and battery posts. Battery is less than a year old.
I have been encountering large voltage drops according to the dash gauge at -30 deg C weather. This happens when I am sitting at idle (drops into the red ~10.5V) and have all of my accessories on. (2X55w H4, 2 heated seats, R. Window defrost, rear fog lights, Brake lights, Blower motor at highest setting) The situation gets even worse when I turn on the hi beams(4x60w). (the blower motor, defog or hi-beams cause the largest V. fluctuation)
However, when I bring up the RPM's (pulling away from stop), the voltage spikes back up to the lower/middle section of the gauge and if I turn everything off, the voltage jumps closer to about 15V on the gauge.
Am I crazy for thinking that the alternator can keep up when the engine is @ 850rpm with all the stuff I have on (I would have thought that the engineers would have thought of this possibility for nuts like me). I ask since I wonder what would happen if I have the udgraded stereo and fog/driving lights on as well. Maybe the regulator is screwed? What has your experience been?
Thanks in advance,
Tim.
