Tie rod questioin. 200

ok so I had thought the '88 240 needed inner tie rods and outers, but after checking today, I am not so certain on the inners.

I jacked up one side of the front at a time and pulled the tire assy like checking the wheel bearings to see if there was excessive play with the tie rods. I got about a 1/2" play on both sides, is this normal? The outer tie rods are shot, I can see that and plan on doing those, but do not want to do the inners if they don't need it.

So, is 1/2" play like so normal and ok? (it's about 1/2", no more than that, but I did not measure)
