new tapping after timing belt break/change? 900

1991 945 turbo 225K

just changed timing belt (after breakage), front seals, and entire pcv system (except breather box, looks really annoying to access). when i started the car after repair, for the first time in a month or so, it shook and chugged pretty violently, then settled down to a decent idle with a tapping that was not present prior to belt breaking. i know this is a non-interference engine, but could the valves have been damaged? if not, why is there a new tapping? could it be something other than the valves? i haven't put on the new accessory belts as yet (in case something else should be done), but i'd like to start driving it soon. and also, there is still a decent amount of pressure at the oil cap. does that mean i have to replace the breather box?

thanks for the help past and future.
